Immigration Advisor

Our client founded the Centre in 1986; they offer a diverse range of services for homeless young people, families in need and the local community on one site. The Centre enables people to gain the skills and support they need to overcome poverty and homelessness.

The Centre has developed a well-respected and innovative immigration service. They provide advice and representation at appeal for those who cannot afford legal assistance. They focus their service so that they can provide legal support without charge to the most vulnerable and they have developed an arrangement of partner organisation to ensure they achieve this aim. Our client is not reliant on legal aid for their funding but they do have a Legal Aid Contract in Immigration and this post will help them to get the maximum benefit from this contract for their  clients. You will be joining the organisation at an exciting time for the services as they seek to build on its success.

Location: Westminster, London
Job type: Full Time, 18 Months Fixed Term Contract
Salary: £32,659.39 per annum
Benefits: 24 days, rising to 26 after one year’s service, and 28 after two years’ service. The Centre provides an auto-enrolment pension scheme and will match employee contributions up to a maximum of 6%. A Season Ticket Loan is available.

About the role:

The Immigration Advisor will work effectively as a member of the Centre staff team and specifically in order to provide confidential OISC level 2 and 3 advice and representation to the Centre’s clients. You will make effective use of the Legal Aid contract across the team and provide information, advice and In-House Training on Level One to the other members of the Centre staff team and appropriate organisations.

The Centre is registered by the Office of Immigration Services Commission and work to their code of practice.

About you:

The successful candidate will be either an Immigration Advisor accredited to do OISC level 3 work or a Solicitor accredited under the Law Society Asylum and Immigration Scheme as a Senior Caseworker. You will have up-to-date know;edge of UK Asylum and Immigration Law/procedures as well as an understanding of legislation that has an impact on migrants living and working in the UK.

In addition to this you will have a proven track record of providing quality casework and representation and the ability to deliver a legal advice / representation service alongside colleagues providing very different but complementary services to vulnerable / homeless client group.

The ability to speak other languages in addition to English is an advantage as is any other legal qualifications and a good knowledge of the welfare benefits system.
