We’re looking for a results-driven individual with major donor fundraising or general fundraising experience or transferable skills to join us as a Philanthropy Executive and generate income for Shelter through our major donors fundraising programme.

Fundraising is at the heart of Shelter’s success. Indeed, in 2015/16 our fundraising division generated gross income of £30 million and has plans to grow this to £45 million by 2019/20.  The Philanthropy team plays its part by raising funds from high net worth individuals, legacy pledges, trusts and the Big Lottery Fund. And, as our philanthropy programme continues to grow and develop, it's a truly exciting time to join our award winning fundraising team.

Benefits include 30 days' annual leave, significant opportunities for learning and development, and the possibility of flexible working.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the major donor team’s fundraising programme by providing solicitation, stewardship, event and logistical support across the full spectrum of major gift fundraising initiatives and activities
  • Working to secure and grow income by managing and cultivating profitable relationships with, and developing a portfolio of, high-net worth individuals
  • Producing proposals and draft letters, helping out with setting budgets and forecasting and reporting on income and key performance indicators
  • Liaising with other fundraising colleagues, particularly our Trusts & Lottery and Corporate Partnership teams to facilitate cross-team working, thus maximising income opportunities for Shelter.

And what you’ll need:

  • Ideally, direct experience of working in a major gift fundraising or related fundraising environment, although we are happy to consider applicants with experience of building relationships with individuals in another field
  • A real desire to be part of an energetic and dedicated team that is passionate about establishing mutually beneficial relationships that help change the lives of vulnerable people across the UK
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels, both internally within Shelter and externally
  • Great time and project management skills, a commitment to meeting targets and a willingness to seize the initiative
  • Commercial awareness, entrepreneurial flair and good problem solving skills.
