One of the UK’s most inspiring and best known faith-based organisations, the Salvation Army is looking for a proactive, committed and highly efficient Business Development and Tendering Manager to join its team.

The Salvation Army UK is the largest provider of commissioned social welfare services outside of government with 446,000 adults and their families accessing our programmes in 2014. While demand for our support services continues to grow, our commissioners face decreasing budgets and new expectations on what citizen-centric services look like. Drawing on our proud 150 year history serving vulnerable and marginalised communities, we are looking at growing opportunities to deliver outcomes commissioners want at scale, in a compassionate and professional way.

This is where you come in. As Business Development and Tendering Manager, you will be part of a growing, dedicated and highly valued team that has one simple aim - to convince our public sector partners of the value of our transformational services. Internally, you will ensure that we remain innovative, flexible and responsive to the evolving needs of communities whilst producing winning tenders. Externally, you will represent our team and the Salvation Army in commercial discussions with commissioners and like-minded organisations we partner with.

The Salvation Army is a unique charity - both in terms of size, and commitment to social justice. Tenders you work on will allow the Salvation Army to continue our work supporting people in the UK experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, long term unemployment or those accessing adult social care. You will represent us at all stages of public sector commissioning and procurement cycles, and be involved in generating success from tendering projects, and will work closely with colleagues in many areas, including:

  • Undertaking market scoping ensuring that potential new business opportunities are identified and evaluated
  • Preparing high quality tenders and project managing processes which require specialist knowledge
  • Supporting the ongoing review of organisational competitiveness and identifying areas for improvement

A proven Business Development professional with a relevant degree, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Experience of designing, developing and completing tenders for public sector contracts
  • Understanding of public sector commissioning and procurement processes
  • Experience in social welfare provision
  • Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong workload planning and prioritising abilities.
