With a caring ethos behind everything they do, their aim is essentially to provide young people with quality opportunities for international work experience, fostering cross-cultural understanding and friendship.

Supported by a range of partners including; associations, voluntary service organisations, educational bodies and relevant institutions, their principal activities are placing people on selected farms for seasonal work in the UK. This supports various programmes for education and community based voluntary work both in the UK and abroad as well as being a delivery partner of the Government's National Citizen Service.

A new focus seeks to improve access, quality and consistency of services and build on effective partnerships and alliances that will deliver their strategic aims.

Detailed Job Description

The CEO will lead the charity in all operational activities through inspiring and leading a team of 18 people (14 FTE) across finance, marketing, volunteering and operations. Reporting into the Chairman and working alongside the Board of Trustees, as Company Secretary, this autonomous role will be fully accountable for developing and implementing the charity's strategy and vision to deliver against its ambitious growth objectives.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make your mark on a well established and respected charity. Providing strategic leadership and direction and working closely with the Board to identify new areas of growth, improvement and development. A key task for the incoming CEO will be to bring commercial focus to the development of the farm placement side of the business, which is particularly critical in the post Brexit environment. This role will be the public face of the charity acting as ambassador and helping build and promote their reputation amongst supporters, sponsors and all key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing the P&L, including the setting and achievement of financial objectives and targets
  • Advising the Board of Trustees on innovative business opportunities and new service and volunteering initiatives, to deliver increased revenue in line with the charities objectives.
  • Lead on all aspects of external relationships with stakeholders, regulatory bodies and partner organisations. Represent the charity at key PR/Fundraising events, actively promoting its activities.
  • Monitoring all areas of the business to ensure progress against agreed deliverables and budgets.
  • Overseeing the management of the volunteer programmes.
  • Horizon scanning to actively manage risk, advising the Board of opportunities and threats, while ensuring and preserving the standards and the reputation of the charity.
  • Lead, manage and develop all area of staff development to ensure a high performing, motivated and success oriented culture.

Candidate's Profile

Needs to be a proven senior leader with a track record of delivering positive change and growth. Candidates can come from a charity or commercial background. Experience within or an understanding of land or associated sectors although not essential, would be beneficial.

Will be either a proven General Manager, or an aspirational senior manager looking for a lead role, you will need the energy and drive necessary to evolve and develop the organisation.

Is a collaborative leader, able to empower others coupled with a track record of developing people.

Needs to be resilient and aware, an excellent communicator used to influencing boards, trustees and key stakeholders both internally and externally to ministerial level

Will have strong intellect, commercial acumen and numeracy skills, with a track record of delivering change.

Will have proven financial, budgeting and planning skills.

Must have a flexible attitude, able to deliver the strategy of the business but be prepared to get involved in the day to day operations.
