An exciting role working as the Head of Legal and Democratic Services for a vibrant local authority. 

Our client is an attractive place to live and work. You will be part of a newly formed leadership team who are incredibly supportive of one another. You will manage the legal, democratic, land charges and elections teams. The council has ambitious plans to transform service delivery and embrace digital ways of working.

Salary: up to £73,530 per annum

About the role: 

The council has ambitious plans to transform their own service delivery and to work with partners to deliver innovative and exciting projects through a variety of vehicles. 

They are looking for a qualified legal professional who is keen to support them in grappling complex legal issues across a range of services and new ventures including setting up new companies, property investment and major town centre regeneration. You will also lead improvement in the council’s constitutional and decision making processes, provide expert advice and support to councillors and colleagues, and challenge the status quo. 

About you: 

The post holder will be legally qualified, have legal experience at a senior level and have membership to a professional organisation. A degree or relevant professional qualification and/or organisational development within the service portfolio is essential, as is experience of commitment to continuing professional development. With excellent written and oral communication skills, you will have experience of managing a service or equilavent, and have knowledge and experience of budgetary control and performance management. 

The ability to give advice on a range of services using specialist knowledge, skills or experience to a range of audiences is also beneficial, and you must also comfortable working in a context of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA). A management qualification is also desirable. 

For this role you must have the ablity to travel within Hertfordshire and beyond, and be flexible in terms of working hours, office/location, and use of IT, to deliver the business needs of the council. 

You will be an innovative thinker, a strong leader and can work at pace, they are an ambitious council with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
