Chief Executive - Epilepsy Research UK
Epilepsy Research UK, Chief Executive
Location: Chiswick, West London
Salary: Up to £65K, commensurate with experience, plus employer pension contributions
Epilepsy Research UK was formed in 2007, following the merger of the Fund for Epilepsy and the Epilepsy Research Foundation. The charity can trace its origins back to 1991 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2016. We are currently based in Chiswick, West London, and have a dedicated staff with extensive experience in fundraising, communications and the coordination of research activities.
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions, affecting one in every 103 people in the UK. It can strike anyone at any age and in 65% of cases the cause of the epilepsy is unknown. There are many drugs available for the treatment of epilepsy, but these fail to control seizures in as many as 40% of patients. For these reasons, and many others besides, research into epilepsy is urgently required. Epilepsy receives relatively little media attention and is significantly under-funded in comparison with other often less prevalent brain conditions. This is where Epilepsy Research UK plays a major role. We are the only national charity that exclusively funds independent scientific research into the causes, consequences, treatments and prevention of epilepsy.
The post of Chief Executive is key to the effective management of Epilepsy Research UK and to meeting the ambitions of its Board of Trustees. You will be a dynamic and charismatic leader who will manage and motivate the team, offer vision, innovative thinking and strategic direction to the organisation, and work alongside the Board of Trustees in delivering their ambitions – and those of ERUK supporters – to improving the lives of those affected by epilepsy through high quality research.
You will have fundraising expertise, excellent communication skills, and an evident passion for the role. You will act as a spokesperson for Epilepsy Research UK, engaging stakeholders, interacting with the public, our supporters and the research community, and promoting the work of the charity and the importance of epilepsy research via the relevant media and forums.
