Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and numbers are set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. 

Position: Regional Volunteering Support Officer 
Location: Burnley (role covers Pennine Lancashire) 
Contract type: Fixed Term Contract – until 31 March 2018 
Hours: 35 per week 
Salary: £24,005 per annum (actual)

About the Role: 

We are looking for an experienced volunteer manager and trainer to help us run our Dementia Friends initiative, creating individuals with the confidence to help people with dementia feel understood and included in their community. Dementia Friends is part of the Society’s wider work to create Dementia Friendly Communities. 

You will play a vital role in the initiative, building our network of volunteer Dementia Friends Champions. You will have experience of delivering training, and supporting and managing volunteers positively to encourage active engagement. You will also be used to monitoring your delivery against targets and establishing or recommending alternative approaches as needed. 

You will be based in our “early adopter” area of the Pennine Lancashire, where you will work with other teams to trial and evaluate new ways of working. In particular, you will promote and facilitate members of the public becoming involved in Alzheimer’s Society activities, particularly our Side by Side service. 

About You: 

You will need excellent communication skills and the ability to build good relationships with key stakeholders within your region and across the Society. You will be joining a team of 13 people, delivering this important, high-profile initiative. 

The role will involve frequent travel across the North, including some overnight stays, and regular travel to London for team meetings.
