Position: Perinatal Assessment and Engagement Worker 
Location: South Derbyshire 
Hours: Permanent, 22.2 hours per week 
Salary: £19,194 - £21,703 pro rata

About the role: 

The Derbyshire Perinatal Service is a peer support service for individuals with low level (mild to moderate) diagnosed mental health issues or who are at risk of developing mental health issues in the perinatal period. They recruit volunteer peer mentors to work with families during pregnancy through to one year after the birth of their child depending on need. 

You will work alongside existing staff and professionals from external organisations in order to generate referrals and promote volunteering opportunities. You will work with existing groups and establish drop-ins for service users to raise their profile and support potential service users to access peer mentoring and group work. In addition you will carry out their initial assessments and evaluate outcomes for service users accessing the service. 

About you: 

The ideal candidate will be educated to NVQ level three or above with a recognised professional qualification in social work, health, education or equivalent, and have evidence of a commitment to continuing learning and professional development. You will have the ability to plan and deliver an agreed programme of support for vulnerable parents that promote attachment and develop parenting skills. You will be an effective communicator, and be able to demonstrate that you can engage effectively with professionals and service users from a range backgrounds. 

You will have an understanding of how mental health affects relationships in a family setting and an understanding of child and adult safeguarding issues. Good IT and numeracy skills are vital, and possessing knowledge of health and safety issues and an ability to take responsibility for the health, physical well-being and safety of the adults and children attending the service. 

For this role you must have a full UK driving licence and you will need to have access to a car and be willing to travel.
