Our client is a youth social action charity which challenges 18 to 25-year-olds to tackle educational inequality through a year of full-time voluntary service. As mentors, tutors and role models in schools, they support pupils growing up in some of the most disadvantaged communities in the UK.
This experience empowers these exceptional and diverse young people to realise their aspirations and grow as leaders, both through their impact on children’s lives and through training, coaching and career development opportunities.
From Monday to Thursday, our client's volunteers are integral to the school day. They encourage pupils both in and out of the classroom to engage with and enjoy learning, while developing their own skills. On Fridays they meet to share experiences and benefit from additional training, delivered by experts from across the education, business and voluntary sectors.
This organisation was first established in Boston, Massachusetts in 1988 and operates in 27 cities across America, as well as Johannesburg in South Africa. Our client launched in London in 2010 and has since expanded to Birmingham and Greater Manchester.
Position: School Partnership / Programme Officer
Location: at a partner school in the West Midlands including Birmingham, but will also involve travel to their Office located in Birmingham city.
Job type: full-time, permanent
Salary: £19k - £22k per annum, dependant on experience, with up to 5% employer pension contributions
Holiday leave: a minimum of 43 days holiday leave per year

About the Role:
As School Programme Officer you will be predominantly based in a school and be the primary link between the school and our client. You will be the custodian of this organisation's culture in the school and responsible for managing the team as well as coordinating, monitoring and evaluating all activities provided by the organisation. You will be the main link to all parties involved and will report to an office-based line manager and will be responsible for the line management of up to 13 full-time school-based volunteers.
You will play a key role in the management, training and retention of the volunteers (along with pastoral oversight for the team and their relationships with those they come into contact with (children, parents, education professionals, funders and other stakeholders).
Within the role you will be meeting and liaising with designated school staff to discuss and identify the school’s requirements and will liaise with, and act as the link between the school and our client by maintaining regular contact with both, ensuring communication flows effectively and records are kept.
Additionally you will use our client’s portfolio of initiatives and collaborate with colleagues to identify solutions that meet the school's brief and effectively communicate the value of such to school leaders and the volunteers.
To succeed in this role you will have a passion for education, children and young people and have good experience of working in a school setting. With a sound understanding of school leadership priorities and an ability to represent our client in this context, you will be a strong leader with excellent communication both orally and written with excellent interpersonal skills.
In addition you will have the ability to work under pressure and assimilate large quantities of information quickly, whilst paying attention to detail. You will also have experience of effective team working, influencing, persuading and negotiation skills.
