An exciting role working for a national charity. 

Our client is a national charity which supports people affected by imprisonment. They provide practical and emotional support to prisoners' children and families, and to prisoners themselves. 

Position: Play Worker 
Location: HMP Bristol 
Contract: Permanent 
Hours of work: 18.75 hours per week including weekends 
Salary: £8,043.75 per annum (FTE £16,087.5)

About the role:

For many children, visiting a prison can be a difficult and an emotionally charged experience. This role will ensure that a warm and welcoming environment is provided for children, ensuring that their visit is as comfortable as possible. This will involve the daily organising of safe and high-quality play facilities and age-appropriate activities for children visiting HMP Bristol, both within the Visits Centre and in the prison visiting hall. 

The Play Worker will work with a team of volunteers and the Family Services Manager towards ensuring the continued development and delivery of play and children services at HMP Bristol. The post holder will also play a vital role in ensuring safeguarding procedures are adhered to and promoted. 

About you: 

You will have experience of planning and delivering play to children within a challenging environment; you will also be a good communicator, reliable and enthusiastic. A NNEB or NVQ level 3 in play work, childcare or equivalent is essential. You should also have a significant amount of experience of working with children. 

It essential that you have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to relate sensitively to the needs of prisoners’ families. Experience of working with children in a challenging environment and of working with families and volunteers is desirable. You must also have the ability to work flexibly, as this role will include regular weekend work. In return you will receive a full role specific induction programme.
