You’re a proven senior communications professional with outstanding journalistic skills. You’ve strong experience of press, broadcasting and digital media too. So bring your talents to a bigger role. A challenging and exciting opportunity to raise the profile of Barnardo’s, the UK’s largest children’s charity.

Key here will be your ability to harness the power of the written word to influence the way people think. That means creating a unique Barnardo’s tone of voice. A style that engages and inspires a range of audiences as you build significant awareness and understanding of our brand, its values and our work with vulnerable young people and families across the UK.

It also means inspiring your own team, leading and developing those around you to achieve brilliant results through their writing.

We called this ‘a challenging and exciting opportunity’ at the top, and we weren’t exaggerating. That’s because you’ll develop and deliver a forward-thinking digital communications strategy, fully embracing the emerging opportunities presented across the digital landscape. As well as that, you will oversee all aspects of our fast-moving press office and 24/7 hour media line, train colleagues in other departments and drive engagement with our staff and volunteers.

Bringing editorial expertise and experience of leading a large senior team, you combine a thorough knowledge of digital media channels and tools with a good understanding of traditional publishing. The ability to handle intellectually rigorous managerial and brand management issues is a must too, plus a background of communicating sensitive and complex issues.
