Head of People Development (Charity / Learning Disabilities) 

A great opportunity to work as the Head of Development for a not-for-profit organisation. 
Our client is a successful and growing provider of personalised support for people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs. As a not-for-profit organisation, they have been developing their expertise, working with individuals, families and local communities across London since 1990. Their person-centred approach is creating a future where people with learning disabilities and mental health needs have the same opportunities and rights to a good life as everyone else. They are the largest Learning Disability providers in London working across 17 boroughs, employing over 900 staff and supporting over 1400 people. 

Position: Head of People Development 
Location: Balham 
Salary: £52,000 per annum

About the role: 

This is an exciting lead on developing our clients organisational capability through learning and organisational development. You will continue to build, deliver and evaluate their development pathways ensuring not only that the essential contractual and legal compliance needs are met but that employees have the skills they need now and for the future, allowing them to deliver on ambitious agenda and strategic objectives.

They want all their people to be motivated to develop and to have access to an increasing range of high quality learning opportunities. Employee retention and succession planning are key for their future and they see employee development as being key to this. 

You will ensure the investment in Learning and Development is effective in terms of time and money and be able to demonstrate real outcomes. This will require highly effective business partnering skills with their operational colleagues. You will possess great collaborative, networking and influencing skills and an excellent stakeholder management style. 

About you: 

The post-holder will be CIPD qualified, and have a post graduate qualification in organisational development or a recognised consultancy qualification. A management qualification or demonstrable experience is also essential as is, a coaching qualification. 

You will have knowledge of legislation and factors affecting the Social Care and Not for Profit Sector, and have knowledge of social care practice drivers. You should also have knowledge of developing and implementing best practice learning and organisational development initiatives and interventions. Experience of advising and consulting with Directors and Managers on strategic and cultural learning and organisational development is also vital, as is, managing multi-disciplinary learning and organisational development projects. 

Previous experience of working within the service sector (commercial or not for profit) is important, as it the ability to manage and motivate colleagues to achieve high levels of performance. Highly effective communication skills, and the ability to facilitate groups and present convincingly at all levels is essential to this role. You will also be able to use consultancy and partnership building techniques and skills to plan and implement change at a strategic and operational level.
