Birmingham Contemporary Music Group is one of Europe’s leading contemporary arts companies whose critically-acclaimed work includes concerts, tours, new music commissions and learning and participation programmes.

The Director of Development is a vital part of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s senior management team and has overall responsibility for generating income from a range of different sources to support the Group’s artistic performances, learning and participation programme and new commissions.

We seek a highly motivated individual to play a key role in the company, further developing a fundraising strategy to engage effectively with BCMG stakeholders: major and individual donors (including members of our development board and pioneering Sound Investment scheme), charitable trusts and public funders. Amongst current priorities is to work with our Board of Trustees, chaired by Christoph Trestler, to ensure additional unrestricted income is raised.  A proven track record of delivering against ambitious six-figure+ fundraising targets is essential, as is an enthusiasm for sharing enthusiasm for the arts with donors and potential donors.

In addition, we have recently set up a new Development Board under the chairman of Steve Saltaire, the immediate past Chair of BCMG. We are looking for fresh and innovative ideas to take this board from strength to strength and increase vital unrestricted income.

This season (2016/17) is the 25th anniversary of Sound investment, our pioneering individual giving scheme, and this role will play a key part in managing and growing this scheme, developing relationships and increasing private income.

The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, ambitious and creative team at BCMG. The post reports directly to the Artistic Director and works closely with other senior managers, the wider team and donors.

The charity’s fundraising target for 2016/17 is £620,000, which includes the already-secured Arts Council England NPO grant of approximately £300,000.
