£50,000 - 55,000 gross per annum - negotiable

Our client is a Charity and Public Health Membership organisation that speaks on behalf of their members on a wide range of public health topics; the small staff team and growing membership body actively participate in developing and delivering the external policy agenda. A strong and clear health policy manifesto acts as the focus for their proactive work and they are highly responsive to current and emerging health issues.

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to significantly improve the public's health at a time of significant change and challenge. Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the board, the Director of Policy and Communications will build on a strong reputation to deliver an ambitious five -year strategy and influence government policy.
Managing a small team, the Director will provide the marketing and communication expertise to lead their ambitious membership engagement and growth agenda.

Key accountabilities include:
- Leading and implementing strategy in policy, public affairs and communications
- Leading on policy, public affairs and parliamentary engagement
- Undertaking strategic analysis to inform and advise policy development
- Represent the organisation in the media
- Managing communications and Public Relations
- Managing Publications including the Academic Journal and membership magazine
- Deputising for the Chief Executive as required


The successful applicant will have a proven and successful track record of policy influence at the highest level; experience of partnership working and network development; as well as strategic marketing and communications experience preferably within health and social care organisations.
- Good academic graduate level qualification or equivalent knowledge in related discipline
- Understanding of political, legislative and regulatory processes and mechanisms
- Understanding of UK Health and Social Care sector
- Proven successful track record of policy development and political influence at a senior level on a national basis
- Experience of building and maintaining effective alliances and partnerships to bring about policy change partnership working and network development
- Strategic marketing and communications experience
- Experience of managing staff volunteers and partners to deliver agreed outcomes.
