Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week

Closing Date: 9am, Monday 10 October 2016
Anticipated interview date: Wednesday 2 November and Thursday 3 November 2016

This role is crucial to the delivery, sustainability and development of the highest quality care and support for children with life-limiting conditions, and their families, in the geographically extensive South West Region. This is a very rare opportunity to be instrumental in shaping the future of a region-wide children’s palliative care service and will afford a high level of job satisfaction. Whilst managing a complex multi-site fundraising operation over such a long linear region, the post, being based in Devon, will ensure that the successful candidate enjoys the high quality of life and leisure opportunities associated with the area. A relocation package may be available.

About Us:

The care we provide is based in our three hospices: Little Bridge House in Devon, Charlton Farm in North Somerset and Little Harbour in Cornwall. There are fundraising teams at each of these locations. The Charity’s HQ is at Little Bridge House which is where this post will be based.

2016 marks the 25th year since the Charity’s foundation. There is much to celebrate, for since 1991 Children’s Hospice South West’s story is one of phenomenal growth so that we are now one of the largest and certainly most geographically extensive children’s hospice organisations in the UK. We have developed an enviable record of fundraising and subsequent service delivery to children and families across the Peninsula.

The Charity is in a financially secure position and is looking to enhance its reputation and to extend its services to more children and their families in the Peninsula. At present nearly 500 children a year are supported in and from the three hospices through a range of services which are described in the recruitment brief (available to download below) for this post.

The Role and Candidate:

In order to achieve our strategic ambitions, as well as securing service sustainability we are seeking to recruit an individual with the capabilities to lead, manage, sustain and grow the Charity in the coming years. The successful candidate will have the advantage of having a supportive Board of Trustees, a cohesive Senior Management Team together with an energetic and highly motivated directorate. Collectively we are united in our desire to “make the most of short and precious lives”.

To take Children’s Hospice South West to the next level we are looking for an experienced fundraiser/marketeer who possesses extensive leadership and operational management experience, preferably of a multi-site organisation, and someone who understands that our roots and continued strength lie in the communities of the South West and fundraising within them. We are seeking to recruit an individual who understands from an engagement point of view that “belonging” to the Charity is vital to its continued well-being.

The successful candidate will be a confident individual, who is able to relate to all sections of the community in a way which demonstrates understanding and gravitas. Retaining the confidence of the directorate’s staff will require special personal qualities as well as a high level of energy to travel extensively and maintain a presence across the Peninsula.

We are seeking to appoint an individual who can make a significant contribution to the Charity’s sense of unity, ie: between children and families, supporters and volunteers and staff.
