Who are APF?
Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis was established three years ago to support patients and families with the lung disease Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. The aim of the charity is to educate and raise awareness in the wider community and to raise funds for research.
Since establishing three years ago the charity has quickly become recognised at national level and are now being consulted on issues relating to IPF, including recently having presented to a parliamentary group and contributing to NICE consultations. So the charity is now at the beginning of its second phase of dynamic growth, for which a new set of ambitious targets for raising awareness amongst the medical profession and the general public are just one example.
The lack of knowledge about IPF amongst the medical profession generally is well recognised and leads to difficulties for many patients when requiring treatment from GPs and local hospitals, APF are now leading the way and widely acknowledged as 'The Voice of the Patient' in raising awareness with the medical profession and all external audiences.
The Senior Operations Manager role and who we're looking for
The charity has been largely run to date by a volunteer Trustee Board with a diverse range of skill sets, a personal connection with IPF and a passion for the cause and their vision for a world in which everyone living with Pulmonary Fibrosis has a better future .
Now that APF is facing the challenge of managing its 2nd phase of rapid growth both in terms of influence and funds raised, their structure requires a central, experienced figure to manage the engine-room of its expansion.
To this end they are now seeking an experienced, creative and ambitious Senior Operations Manager with the vision, drive and passion to work with a committed board of trustees to develop further the impact and influence of the charity.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a young organisation at an exciting point in its life. The Senior Operations Manager will help deliver the charity's strategic objectives, extend its field of influence by identifying conference exhibition and speaker engagement opportunities and establish the charity as a leader in its field. This is a wide-ranging role and the successful candidate will be a self-starter, highly motivated and have demonstrable senior manager experience.
The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership, partnership building and stakeholder-management skills. You will be a confident communicator and be able to hit the ground running. Knowledge and experience of the public sector (NHS, local and national government) and the voluntary sector is essential. Fundraising experience and knowledge of IPF is also desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to work from home (P/T 3 days per week) including attendance at regular meetings with trustees in the Midlands. The position will initially be for a six-month freelance contract with the potential to extend.
