Interim Chief Executive

£50-60,000 per annum dependent on experience

Citizens Advice Lewisham is the principal advice providing charity for everyone who lives, works or studies in the London Borough of Lewisham. In the last year alone we worked with nearly 15,000 people, helping them to resolve over 24,000 problems, from benefits to debt, from housing to employment – whoever they are, and whatever their problem, we were there for them.

We want to appoint an Interim Chief Executive to provide operational leadership for the charity through a period of change and development. We’re moving to new premises in the current months, that will bring our team on to one site for the first time, going through a service redesign and staffing restructure, at the same time as responding to cuts in our core funding and needing to achieve savings from our staffing and other budgets. This is an exciting time for us to get these things right, so we need someone to positively lead us through these developments.

As our ideal candidate you’ll need to have worked in a leadership capacity previously, but not necessarily in the advice sector – we have experienced colleagues on the team who can work with you on the quality of our services and the detail of what we do, it’s your focused and engaged approach that we know will help us achieve the change we need.

What we can offer:

You’ll be working with an engaged and supportive Trustee Board, who understand the difference between strategic and operational responsibilities, and who are all committed to doing their best to enable you to lead the organisation. You’ll also get to work with our excellent team of staff and volunteers, all of whom are committed to delivering excellent services for our community.

As well as our experience, guidance and support we’re able to offer a salary of £50-60,000 per annum dependent on experience, and are open to engaging you on a consultancy/freelance contract on an equivalent day rate if this is your preferred way of working.

How to apply:

Please send us a copy of your CV and a covering letter to the Chair of the Board, Mark Simons, at

Your covering letter should be a maximum of two sides A4, and should explain how your skills and experience would equip you for this role, detail your salary/freelance rate expectations, and note when you would be able to begin working for us.

Closing date: 5pm on Friday 23 September

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the end of Monday 26 September, inviting them to an interview on Thursday 29 September with members of the Trustee Board. If the interview date presents any problems please could you note this in your covering letter.
