Business Development Manager (salary £38,000) needed in Canary Wharf, London for Career Ready, a UK-wide charity linking employers with schools and colleges to prepare young people for the world of work.
We give students from lower income families the confidence, skills and networks to achieve their potential. We work in 200 schools and colleges across the UK, offering programmes delivered by employer volunteers and based on four pillars - masterclasses, mentoring, workplace visits and work placements. This year we were chosen by the government-funded Careers & Enterprise Company as one of the organisations to lead the national expansion of employer-led careers education.
Reporting to the Head of Business Development and Fundraising, and working closely with the Corporate Partnership Accounts Manager and a network of Regional Managers, you will take lead responsibility for acquiring new corporate partnerships. This work will be aligned to Career Ready’s business development and fundraising strategy and measured against a robust set of key performance indicators, meeting ambitious targets for new regional and national (UK) corporate supporters.
The main focus will be on the following areas of business development:
- Income generation – restricted and unrestricted
- Sourcing student work placements/internships
- Employee volunteering
- Sourcing work place visits
- Pro-bono support and gifts-in-kind
You will lead on all stages of the acquisition process, including: research and qualification, developing proposals and pitches, undertaking presentations at senior level meetings, contract negotiation, and handover to the Corporate Partnership Accounts Manager once signed up.
Working with the Head of Business Development & Fundraising you will review and update Career Ready’s corporate partnership packages and key propositions, ensuring that they showcase the B2B benefits of working with the charity and maximise success.
You will also promote all current and future Career Ready fundraising, trading and communication activities to relevant potential partners, and working closely with the Events Manager, you will aim to maximise opportunities from Career Ready’s annual events programme.
The successful candidate will have a commercial background or direct experience of income-generating activity in the voluntary sector, ideally with a minimum of three years’ experience of corporate fundraising, and a proven track record in achieving ambitious financial targets, together with the drive and tenacity to manage all stages of the acquisition process, generating success from process-led opportunities (e.g. COTY applications) and non-process (strategic partnership) relationship development.
Experience of giving presentations, pitches and a proven ability to close deals and an ability to build and develop effective relationships with partners at senior level, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Experience of Salesforce is desirable.
