Job Title: Head of Welfare
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £53k
Location: Wimbledon, London SW19

Our client, The Wimbledon Guild, has been providing a range of services to support local people of all ages since 1907. The Guild focuses on three areas of work: supporting ageing, supporting mental health and tackling poverty. Their wide ranging services are available at little or no cost to people who live and work in Merton.  They are currently providing more services to more people than at any other time in history and have ambitious plans for their talented team to grow their services further in response to local need.

The Wimbledon Guild is now seeking a new Head of Welfare who will have overall responsibility for the service that focusses largely, but not exclusively, on promoting a good quality of life for older people, offering person-centred services to promote and maintain independence.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the strategic development of the service, identifying and responding to need, building new alliances and partnerships with statutory and voluntary organisations and ensuring that a high quality service is provided at all times.  You will have a first degree, post graduate qualification or professional qualification in a relevant field and will demonstrate: 

• Three years post-qualification experience and a broad knowledge of the field of social welfare
• Empathetic approach and personal commitment to tackling disadvantage, particularly in the older community
• Experience of managing staff
• Understanding of current issues within the field of social care
• Knowledge of safeguarding protocols
• The ability to collaborate with senior colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds.

The successful individual will have excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to represent the charity both internally and externally at all levels. The Head of Welfare will be part of the Guild’s senior leadership team, contributing to the organisation’s overall management, funding and development.
