We are looking for a procurement professional  to join us as an Operational Buyer with responsibility for supporting spend requests and making recommendations for improved purchasing solutions.

The Salvation Army is a worldwide Christian church and registered charity with an extensive social remit, providing a range of social and community services, including: services for children and the elderly, for those trapped in modern-day slavery, for homeless people, for individuals struggling with addiction, and for people seeking employment.

We are experiencing an exciting period of change and have recently launched our Fit For Mission programme, the main aim of the which is to ensure that we remain dynamic and that we have the organisational structure and ways of working that enable full focus on delivery of front line mission in the most effective and efficient way.

Part of this is the formation of a new Procurement Unit. We are currently working with Capita Procurement Solutions, as a procurement partner, to initiate the procurement transformation programme and carry out savings delivery projects, but in order to fully embed the benefits of procurement, we are recruiting a permanent Procurement Team. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and positive procurement professional to join us and help build our UK&I procurement function.

To succeed you will need:

  • The ability to identify and execute tactical buying and lowest cost purchasing routes, while maintaining quality of goods and services
  • A level standard education and either studying or willing to embark on CIPS qualification
  • Experience in data analysis, operational procurement, processing orders via major ERP system; e.g. Agresso/SAP/Oracle
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and prioritise work

The role is based in London but must be available to travel to other Salvation Army sites and to suppliers as required.
