Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of patients in Sheffield and across our region?

Sheffield Hospitals Charity is the official NHS Charity in Sheffield. Our Charity seeks to enhance the care and treatment of patients across our region. We presently support the work of the Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, the Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, employing over 16,000 staff and caring for over a million patients each year in its five hospitals and community services. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is internationally renowned for its work in neurosciences, spinal injuries, cancer, transplantation and orthopaedics.

The Charity raises and makes grant awards annually in excess of £2m and manages around £13m funds to support this vital work with the ultimate aim of making life better for patients.

We are involved in a number of high profile projects and this is an exciting time to join a growing Charity and to make a real impact by helping us to achieve our ambitious plans for growth.

Crucially, you will form part of the senior leadership team and be jointly responsible for developing organisational strategy, and providing leadership and direction for the Charity as a whole. You will be comfortable managing change, be experienced and committed to supporting and developing staff and be outcome focussed.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced CCAB qualified accountant/finance professional who will make a real contribution to the development of the Charity, embracing new opportunities and ways of working.

You will have substantial experience of senior financial management and provide effective financial leadership and continuous oversight of the Charity’s financial affairs. You will possess exceptional financial, managerial and communication skills, have experience of working across departments and disciplines, and will have a positive approach to the management of the Charity’s resources.

You will develop and deliver all financial policies and procedures including the preparation of annual accounts, management accounts, cash flow forecasts and budgets. You will also advise on governance matters and ensure compliance with all relevant legal requirements.  You will liaise across the Charity and NHS Foundation Trusts to ensure financial procedures maximise income, that donations reach the Charity as quickly as possible, and that financial procedures facilitate high levels of donor care and satisfaction.

You will provide leadership on our grant making procedures, working to increase access to our funding by staff in the NHS, providing transparent, simple processes to facilitate this and ensuring the Charity receives sufficient information to aid effective grant making. You will ensure our funds are spent in line with these applications, and that feedback is provided by applicants on the eventual patient benefit and impact of our funding.

Reporting to the Director, you will be critical to our success and play a pivotal role in contributing to the Charity’s overall strategy. The ability to engage stakeholders continually and cultivate relationships at the highest levels is essential. This is particularly important in respect of those NHS staff charged with helping the Charity to ensure that funds are spent wisely and achieve maximum patient benefit. You will also have a track record of success and the drive and determination to achieve for the Charity.

We are offering this vacancy on a salary range from £46,625 - £57,640 per annum dependent upon the level of experience and qualifications of the successful applicant (plus NHS pension). Full time or part time hours ranging between 3.5 days (26.25 hours) to 5 days (37.5 hours per week) to be agreed with the successful candidate
