Grants, Trusts and Foundations Fundraising Manager
A rare opportunity for an individual with exceptional ability to join a thriving and ambitious charity, and use their business skills or their experience in fundraising to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK. OnSide is a private-sector-led charity, nationally acclaimed for its ground-breaking work in establishing state-of-the-art Youth Zones. We already have some income from trusts, foundations and the public sector and now need someone to build on existing relationships and unlock more funding to enable us to fulfil our ambitious vision for growth. The role is all-encompassing, high profile and has the potential to secure substantial, five or six figure grants. It is as much about researching, identifying, building and maintaining relations with appropriate funding sources as it is about writing well-structured and compelling bids.
OnSide, a charity set up in 2008 by business leaders in the North West of England, has initiated, funded, built and, over the last year, opened four state-of-the-art Youth Zones in towns in the region. A fifth is being built, a sixth will be started before the end of the year and more are being planned.
The job will involve raising funds for OnSide, for new Youth Zones and for collective projects across the network of established Youth Zones. A key part of the role will be working with others at OnSide and in the Youth Zones to understand their priorities and devise projects that will attract funding. Also important will be the setting up of monitoring arrangements and giving feedback to funders.
Good candidates for this role will be well-educated and will either have experience in this kind of work or have project management experience, together with an understanding of the trusts and grants world. They will be confident, enthusiastic, personable and persuasive, and have excellent communication skills. They will be numerate and financially astute and able to write fluently, to think clearly and to grasp new concepts quickly.
At this time, when grant and trust income is under pressure, candidates should be able to demonstrate a creative and imaginative approach and a determination to succeed. It is also important that they have the ability to cope with multiple demands and deadlines from different people, to work quickly and to a consistently high standard, to manage their own work and to grasp new information and ideas quickly. They should have an eye for detail and be able to demonstrate empathy with the goals of OnSide.
