The Press and Campaigns Officer will work within our busy Communications team to help develop and deliver innovative campaigns that raise awareness of issues relating to lung and respiratory disease throughout the UK, and help improve treatment, support and care for anyone affected by it. This vital role will also involve work with the fundraising, services and research teams, and national and regional offices, to raise awareness of the BLF’s work and ensure the charity remains an important, respected voice in UK healthcare.

Work with relevant staff from across the BLF to help develop and deliver key campaigns and PR initiatives, as part of the charity’s overarching communications strategy
 Produce news releases, statements, letters, media briefings and articles for internal and external publication
 Respond to and monitor incoming media enquiries
 Set up media interviews and briefings, providing full support to BLF spokespersons where appropriate
 Develop and maintain relationships with relevant media personnel
 Identify opportunities for the BLF to provide comment on lung health or raise awareness of its work in the media
 Develop and maintain relationships with BLF medical experts, spokespeople, case studies, celebrity supporters and Breathe Easy support groups around the country
 Develop materials and provide PR support for Breathe Easy support groups and BLF campaigners around the country
 Provide PR support and advice for the Chief Executive, national and regional heads, fundraising and research teams, and all other BLF staff as required
 Develop and deliver presentations for internal and external stakeholders on PR technique or relating to particular campaigns
 Help keep BLF staff and Trustees updated on the charity’s media work
 Supervise departmental volunteers as necessary
 Provide occasional out-of-hours press office cover as part of a rota
 Represent the British Lung Foundation at internal and external meetings as advised by the Press and Campaigns Manager
 Support the Press and Campaigns Manager in managing the PR and campaigns budget and forecasting the communications budget
 Organise and brief external suppliers and partners for PR activities
 Deputise for Press and Campaigns Manager when required
