Trustee
Oakleaf is a mental health charity based in Guildford, Surrey providing vocational training and social inclusion activities for those suffering from mental health issues. We offer vocational training in IT, horticulture, upholstery and packing aimed at enabling people to return to mainstream employment. We provide our clients with up-to-date qualifications, practical experience and help to develop an individual’s confidence. Oakleaf has been supporting its client group since the early 1990’s with around 125 people attending each week.
The governing body is a Board of Directors who act as the charity’s trustees. They currently number 5 and also benefit from 2 co-opted individuals. A number of the trustees provide specialist skills to the Charity on an ex gratia basis (for example, our treasurer is an accountant who attends voluntarily on an unpaid basis one day a week).
A number of the directors will be retiring over the next few months and the Board would welcome anyone with the relevant experience interested in contributing to the development of Oakleaf by becoming part of the governance team. We would particularly welcome trustees who are professionals in the area of mental health. In addition, we anticipate the need for accounting and general business experience as expected retirements take place. A background or understanding of disability and/or mental health would be a benefit.
The Board meet regularly (but not more frequently than monthly) with some sub group meetings.
