This role will focus on shaping future forestry policy in England following the forthcoming report of the Independent Panel on Forestry Policy, a new National Planning Policy Framework and Natural Environment White Paper. The role will also focus on holding to account decision makers in Northern Ireland following recent commitments around woodland creation and protection .
Based in Grantham with occasional travel to Northern Ireland, the post holder will work to increase the Trust’s influence in Government affairs. Very occasionally, duties relating to European affairs and the English regions may also be required.
Generally you will support the Head of Government Affairs and NI Director in delivering our political advocacy work in England and Northern Ireland, shaping a climate where decision makers and opinion formers in both countries understand and act upon the benefits of woods and trees across a range of policy areas.
On a daily basis you will monitor and disseminate public policy information, writing responses to Government consultations and select committee inquiries, building relationships and preparing briefs for debates.
You’ll have experience of influencing policy and a strong understanding of current affairs, along with the ability to absorb large amounts of information and distil the essential points. You will be committed to the Trust's aims and approach and have the ability to represent our organisational policies through excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will also have strong networking skills and an understanding of, and willingness to learn about, Northern Ireland's politics.
