Tell us about your organisation and what it does

We are a national charity that works hard to enrich the lives of children and young people with serious and life-limiting conditions aged between 2 and 21 years old. Granting a dream can help a child or young person to think beyond their illness or disability and focus on something highly positive and empowering. The experience creates amazing memories for entire families that have a lasting impact on everyone involved. We call it the power of dreams.

What role are you currently recruiting for and what does it involve?

We are looking for a business development specialist to work in our corporate partnerships team. We have a strong track record in supporting and retaining our corporate partnerships. Our growth strategy depends upon the creation of a strong pipeline of new partners. Working closely with the director of fundraising and the corporate relationships team you will build this pipeline.

What kind of people are you looking for?

With a background and demonstrable track record in new business development in the charity or commercial sectors, the corporate partnerships manager for new business will work strategically to secure new corporate partnerships, delivering income targets through activities including sponsorship, corporate donations, cause-related marketing, staff engagement and fundraising. The role will involve researching, developing and nurturing new relationships with prospective corporate partners. Once secured, the corporate partnerships manager will ensure the successful transition of new partnership agreements from new business to account management.

Why would someone want to work for Dreams Come True?

We are currently a small charity with ambitions to grow in order to bring our unique service to many more children and young people with life limiting or life threatening conditions. Our work is hugely fulfilling because the children and families we work with are inspiring, the supporters and volunteers we work with are passionate and what we do delivers very powerful results. We have a modern and well equipped office which is easily accessible from South West London, Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire and we are ambitious to grow our income and our service.

Thank you to the team that go above and beyond their roles to make dreams happen. To everyone reading this, I ask that If anyone can donate to the charity so that more young people get to experience the rejuvenating happiness that I have felt, please really consider doing so and help make dreams become reality!

What exciting projects are you working on?

We create magical experiences for life threatened and life limited children and young people every day so everything we do and every dream we fulfil has an element of excitement and magic about it. We are currently working on our annual group trip where we take a group of some 12 families to Florida. The children and young people on the trip will all have dreams to meet favourite Disney characters, experience the thrills and spills of the various parks and attractions and to share the holiday of a lifetime with those they love.

At the same time we are working on many other dreams - for example for children with mobility problems who want to experience the freedom of a purpose designed and built tricycle, and for young people who want to meet their sporting heroes. We have more than a hundred dreams in progress, each of them unique and special to the individual child or young person.

What tips would you offer applicants?

We have a strong “one team” culture with no barriers between the fundraising team and our dream fulfilment team so applicants must be able to embrace and appreciate all aspects of our work. We expect all of our staff to be leaders and to bring something personal and unique to the team.

Sum up what it’s like to work for Dreams Come True

The charity functions as a family with our many supporters, volunteers, staff and trustees working together to bring the power of dreams to some amazing children and young people and their equally amazing families. As a hard working team, we love what we do, who we do it for and who we do it with.
