Play a pivotal role in Scotland’s largest museum capital appeal

Bruce Tait Associates is exclusively working on behalf of Glasgow Life to search for a dedicated campaign manager to lead the fundraising initiative for their internationally recognised museum - the Burrell Collection. We spoke to Claire Rocha da Cruz from Glasgow Life to find out more about the pivotal role and why it’s such a unique opportunity to work with inspirational people on an iconic fundraising project.

Glasgow Life is a charity that delivers cultural, sporting and learning activities on behalf of Glasgow City Council, to inspire Glasgow’s citizens and visitors to lead richer and more active lives.

They are currently working to raise funds for the refurbishment and redisplay of The Burrell Collection - one of the greatest art collections in the world, consisting of more than 9,000 antiquities, objects, tapestries and paintings. Be the lynch pin of a successful campaign

Glasgow Life’s campaign manager will need to be highly experienced in all pillars of fundraising, achieving targets through a combination of monies: grant making trusts; major gifts from philanthropists; corporate sponsorship; corporate donations/philanthropy; high volume/low level donations from the general public; events-based fundraising; and international tour sponsorship.

“Working with the director of the Burrell Renaissance, the campaign manager will be the lynch pin in the preparation and implementation of a successful campaign, both in the UK and internationally”, says Rocha.

“Confidence in working with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, and an understanding of their needs is important to the success of the role.”

Oversee communications and cultivate relationships

As well as managing and motivating the fundraising team, the campaign manager will work with the support of the project team, the Glasgow Life team and the Burrell Renaissance Board, to oversee the development of campaign communications. A big part of your role will involve researching and identifying opportunities, preparing proposals and cultivating relationships. You will also support and implement the delivery of communications, stewardship and trust strategies.

Rocha describes a typical day as a campaign manager at Glasgow Life as “anything from methodical project planning to coming up with creative solutions to problem solving.”

She adds: “With only 20% of the collection currently available to the public, the unparalleled benefit of the role is having access to some 9,000 objects, and to colleagues with world class knowledge of the works who share a passion for the collection.”

Work in a competitive, rewarding environment

Fundraising, being deadline and target driven, is an increasingly competitive environment in which to work. This will be Scotland’s largest museum capital appeal, however, with £33 million already secured from Glasgow City Council and a further £15 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund even before the campaign has formally launched, The Burrell Collection is well out of the starting blocks in reaching its fundraising target.
